Way better than I expected

I enjoyed the Return of Tarzan on the podcast, so I bought this for a road trip. I really enjoyed it. As usual, Mr. Harrisons collections of voices and accents made the story. I am not a huge scifi fan but this was a great story.

BJ Harrison really brings out the passion of this classic. I've just ordered the next two in the series. really make my long drive to work an incredible adventure. Can't wait for all of this series to one day be narrated. Great work Mr. Harrison :)
Fabulous Job!

BJ Harrison does a stupendous job of bringing this fun John Carter story to life. Edgar Rice Burroughs is a favorite, and listening to this SciFi story while I worked out made the time fly by.
Great story

Just finished a cross country drive listening to this audiobook. I've read the book several times, but it stays continually fresh. The audio version is flawless (with only two technical glitches--repeated sentences--in the entire reading) in B J Harrison's excellent reading, and the voices of John Carter, Tars Tarkas, Dejah Thoris, and all the other characters are intensely believable. Great read.
Lots of Fun

Greatly enjoyed this early science fiction classic. I was surprised by how many items in this story showed up in later stories, including Star Wars. Very well done.

Princess of Mars Comes Alive!
From Niall Mor of Marion, South Carolina on .
"The Classic Tales" is one of my favorite podcasts, and "A Princess of Mars," is one of my favorite pulp/SF novels, so that when I heard the two things were coming together at a special low price, how could I resist? For those not familiar with the story, POM concerns John Carter, a Confederate Civil War veteran who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where he finds romance and adventure enough for two worlds. This book has a little of everything: a square-jawed straight-shootin' hero, a plucky and beautiful heroine, astral projection, airships, dead cities, sword fights, epic battles, and beautiful, scantily clad maidens in danger from green bug-eyed monsters. What's not to love? As the preceding brief list would suggest, this is the granddaddy of all space operas, with tropes and motifs that come up again and again in science fiction serials, movies, and TV shows ranging from Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers to Star Wars, Avatar, and of course, the current "John Carter" movie based on this book.
B. J. Harrison's performance makes this epic story come alive with the assured, professional, high-quality reading "Classic Tales" listeners have come to expect. Fortunately, Mr. Harrison doesn't overplay John Carter's Southern background by endowing him with an exaggerated Southern accent as other narrators might (one of my pet peeves). Particularly outstanding, however, is the voice Mr. Harrison provides for the villainous Tal Hajus, a monstrous six-legged green beast, perhaps a forerunner of Jabba the Hut.
If you're looking for inexpensive classic SF to liven up your iPod, it's hard to beat POM for sheer entertainment value, and B. J. Harrison's reading is the best I've heard. Don't miss it!
Good listen, holds interest

As usually, quality audio and B. J. Harrison's reading is excellent. I travel and listen to many podcasts daily. A couple of episodes of this book are what I have been starting each day with.

Very well done version of this unique science fiction classic. BJ's voice variety is fully exercised here, helping the characters come to life. I had lost my first download from a year or so ago. As a testament to the quality of this recording, I paid for it again to be able to hear it again in light of the recent Disney movie release.
