Value is not the only virtue here.

To begin with, B.J. Harrison is as fine a reader of the written word as you're likely to find. I'm quite convinced that, if he's not been approached by the major book publishers to read for them full time, the world lies barren of justice.
The stories featured here are three, as you've no doubt noted in the description. Thematic relevance notwithstanding, these stories are tied by their outstanding authors. They are, without question, some of the greatest short story tellers and three of my personal favorites.
Since part of the joy of reading is the journey and another part the destination, I'm not going to spoil any of that with exposition. I will say that "A Piece of String" is a wonderful allegory about the darkness of human nature. "A Vine on a House" is just fun. "Markheim" on the other hand, has an ambivalence about it whose roads, in my mind, at least, lead to redemption. But maybe I'm an optimist.
You can't go wrong here. Three stories by three high craftsmen read by one master narrator for less than a dollar is a value you cannot afford to pass up. Their haunting themes will resonate long after you stop thinking about your spent money.
