NICHOLAS NICKLEBY
From Jude Conroy of Prescott Valley, Arizona on .
The author, Charles Dickens was born 1812, in UK. He is an incredibly talented writer and BJ Harrison brings this story to life. BJ is an incredible verbal
character enhancer. If you could hear me verbalize how wonderful BJ brings this story to life I think you'd order the book immediately. - - - When I heard the voice of the Cheriball Brothers butler, I immediately thought of the character in CARRY ON JEEVES! Cracked me up. - - - - I'm glad I was not born into that period of life Charles D. created this story in as it grated my feelings 'n thoughts hearing how others were treated. - - - - Charles D brings the story to a very complete and satisfactory ending & you BJ did an excellent job, excellent! Kudos :-)
Nicholas Nickleby, Volumes 1 and 2
From Julie Steele of Santa Monica, California on .
What do you say about BJ? He is a master of his craft. His Sir Mulberry Hawk was dripping with contempt. His Wackford Squeers was the epitome of two-faced cruelty masquerading as care. His John Browdie spoke in a Yorkshire dialect so accurate that I thought I was transported to 1800’s Yorkshire.
The female leads, young Kate Nickleby and Madeline Bray, spoke with a reverent gentleness, grace, and softness that bespoke their pure feminine virtue. Our main character, Nicholas Nickleby, displayed all the tempestuous mixture of brashness, outrage, courage, and compassion broiling within a 19-year old youth. BJ’s Smike broke my heart: beaten, hopeless, mentally stunted, and apologetic for his very existence, hanging on to Nicholas for dear life.
The "man next door” was hysterical. Nicholas and Kate's mother, Mrs. Catherine Nickleby, could talk like no one’s business. (I still don’t know how BJ gets old ladies so accurately!)
But I have to say, my favorite characters were the identical twin brothers, Charles and Ned Cheeryble. BJ infused their voices with such a whimsical, empathetic, beneficent, twinkling lilt that I wanted them to stay in my room forever!
Oh, what a story, what a journey. You will love the path BJ takes you on. He is a master narrator, should be designated a national treasure, and is a gift to all of us who are lucky enough to have discovered him.
Oh. And thanks to Charles Dickens, too!

I hope BJ Harrison does more Charles Dickens and classic novels. It is a true pleasure getting lost in the Dickensian world

BJ Harrison has brought yet another Charles Dickens great novel to life. It is remarkable how he can "act" out each character. My high school granddaughter and myself were on a long drive and she was so into what she heard I had to go back to Volume 1 for her. All the novels I was intimidated to read as a young adult this young adult at heart is catching up on thanks to this great site. Thank you BJ

BJ does an AWESOME Dickens - Again!
From Steven Labkoff of Stamford, Connecticut on .
BJ has done it again. Nicholas Nickleby is an amazing tale - and told so well by BJ Harrison. He does all the voices in the book so nicely. I can almost feel as if I'm in 1800's London, Yorkshire and the like... Just a wonderful tale. And, being dyslexic, this is about the only way I could ever enjoy Dickens - Thanks BJ!
Nicholas Nickleby Part 2
From Howard Taub of Woodinville, Washington on .
Begin with a great novel. Then let Harrison add color and texture through the characters voices. You end up with an experience so engrossing and emotionally moving, that you will be greatly saddened when it is over. I certainly was. Bravo!
