Fascinating!
From Margaret M of Gearhart, Oregon on .
I put off buying this book because I thought it would be tedious and dry. Far from it! These stories are not only interesting, but entertaining, thanks to John Dryden's graceful translation and BJ Harrison's spirited but nuanced reading. Reading these descriptions of influential Greek and Roman leaders, I was stunned to see the parallels with the modern political situation. Plutarch's analysis of their character and influence is remarkable - I have to wonder what he would say about our modern leaders. . . .
The real Game of Thrones
From JSD of Annandale, Virginia on .
Murders, murderers, suicides - and much it really happened! I say "much of it" because a lot of it occurred many hundreds of years before Plutarch's time, so he was working from myth in some instances. I had been wanting to read this for decades but was daunted by the massiveness of the work. Mr. Harrison brought it to life. It really felt as if I I were listening to Plutarch himself. I listened to all four volumes -- probably 8 hours in all -- and was enthralled to to end. I am leaving this . . .
Very Interesting

This is a very interesting work. it feels like an "Ancient History" class...like I should be taking notes because a quiz is coming! I'm really enjoying it.
