I hard for me to get past the racism
From Anonymous of Upnorth, Michigan on .
The characters are all unique and interesting. Plot is meandering and layered. But like.. trigger warning for a lot of racist words and ideas. Even for these old books where we expect there’s going to be racism and sexism and some outdated words…there is extra cringe in this story. Such as our main character and narrator woman saying she sees “the negro” as half thief and half whatever. I’m trying to see it as funny… rich white people being rich white people doing rich white people things, plus a who-dun-it. But I can’t. I’m just grossed out. I wish I could be more open minded to this old stuff, and I did listen to the entire story, and I am able to get around the sexism, but i just can’t get past the racism and enjoy the story.
