Never having heard of Jerome K Jerome, I didn't expect much when I got this audiobook. But if you enjoy the humor of PG Wodehouse, you will enjoy this book. This travelogue starring three idle and ridiculous young men is surprisingly witty, informative, and at times even profound. Once again BJ makes the characters sparkle with a variety of voices and UK dialects. The descriptions of boating on the Thames above London in the late 19th century opened my eyes to a life I had no idea existed. I found . . .

Great job projecting this story and capturing the feeling and attitude of the trials and tribulations of a boating and camping holiday in the 19th century. Some things don't change.
I particularly loved the introductory reflections on hypochondirasis. That for sure has not changed.

Perfect. BJ Harrison's voice is wonderfully suited to the text. I enjoyed every moment - often laughing out loud (thankfully not in public).

Gentle English Humor

The book dates from the nineteenth century. Trains now carry freight that once traveled by barge on the Thames, making the river more welcoming to casual travelers. Three such are the gentlemen in the boat.

The book started as a travel guide, and it shows to advantage. The historical reflections nicely show the importance of the river, dating back as far as records exist.

The humor - and there is plenty - is generally low-key. It is based on the foibles and inconsistencies of the three men . . .
